History
Started in 2009, the Barneleikarringen Cultural Foundation is a fun, and exciting way for our family to reach out the Nordic Community.
Few people realize how many project and groups Obert and Marietta Ronnestad have been involved with over the years. Here are just a few examples:

I have many fond memories of the tales my father told me about his life. You always know the good stories because they start with . . . .

My father grew up in Seattle and attended grade school in the building that now houses the Nordic Heritage Museum. He says his first time on stage was in the auditorium at age 8, playing a shepherd in a Christmas pagent.
As an adventurous young man, Obert often traveled to Alaska with his father, to work in the fishing industry. He has many interesting stories of working in the Waterfall Cannery, owned at that time by the Nakat Packing Company. The cannery was later sold and became a world class fishing resort.
One of my favorite stories is of Grandpa Ingvald, when he caught a bear in the smokehouse. Being a tough Norwegian, Grandpa was not going to take any guff from some old bear. Darned if he didn't walk right up at tell the bear to get out! The bear kept eating. A bit irritated, Grandpa smacked the wall of the smokehouse to scare the bear out. Naturally, the bear responded in kind - smacking the wall back with enough force to knock off a fair number of shakes. Grandpa tried again, same result. Deciding the smokehouse wasn't going to take much more, Grandpa walked away. After a bit, the bear was full and wondered off. A few of the fish were sort of chewed on, but they eat them anyway. Just another day on the Alaska frontier. . .

A dear family friend, Bergliot Rosewick was involved with Obert & Marietta in many dance performances, parades and meetings. Bergliot stitched much of the embroidery on Marietta's beautiful bunad and was instrumental in Marietta's involvement with the Daughters of Norway. In wasn't until recently that we found out the secret ingrediant for Bergliot's famous KrumKake. Bourbon!

In 2005, Obert and Marietta celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were remarried in the same church they were originally married in (Greenlake Methodist), on he same day, 50 years later. They both wore full bunad dress, and the Tanhuajat Finnish Folk Dancers danced in the church with them in celebration!
